OTHER OPPS: HOST A SMALL GROUP AT YOUR HOME

Hey Parents!  Youth Group could use your help!

We'd like to offer more opportunities for our kids to connect with each other outside of regular church time, but we need adult volunteers to make it happen. Even opening up your home for some students to hang out and eat pizza or play games is a big deal!

Please contact Erica Swanson at erica.m.swanson@gmail.com to learn more.

STORY OF THE WEEK

SPECIAL SERVICE BEING PLANNED FOR HOLY WEEK
The week leading up to Easter seems far off but it’s only a handful of weeks away. Known as Holy Week, it is a time when Christians focus on Jesus’ journey to the Cross. Maundy Thursday is remembrance of Jesus’ commanded the disciples to, “Love one another as I have loved you.”

Southeast is partnering with nine other organizations to put on a service for Maundy Thursday and planning is underway. The service will feature five high school seniors speaking on Jesus’ words at the Last Supper. “It’s a service for the whole community,” the planning team explained. “It is a great opportunity to invite friends and family.”

Partnering organizations are Calvary Chapel, Campus Life, Crossroads, Eastern Hills, Greenwood, Mission Hills, PEPC, Parker United Methodist, and Summit.

ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO PARTNER WITH US

Hey Parents!  Youth Group could use your help!

We'd like to offer more opportunities for our kids to connect with each other outside of regular church time, but we need adult volunteers to make it happen. Our biggest need right now is in planning events for small groups. We could also use help with larger events, outings, and retreats.

Ideally each small group would have a parent to plan and organize events. Events are an important part of helping kids feel like they belong, they can also be a great vehicle for outreach and service. Planning events is a great way to serve with limited time and without being a small group leader.

If every parent volunteered at least once we would have enough help for the entire year!  Please contact Erica Swanson at erica.m.swanson@gmail.com to learn more.

STORY OF THE WEEK

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: CHRISTI SURINA
I began leading because my own kids were teenagers and I wanted to walk the high school years with them. What I quickly discovered was how much more God had for me. In the past 5 years, God has given me the opportunity to build deep and significant relationships with teenagers. I have had girls in my living room sharing stories of indescribable pain and hurt. I have had girls at my kitchen table celebrating holidays with our family when their own homes weren't safe places. I have had girls in my prayers as I cried out to God on their behalf. I began my serving journey thinking it would be a great way to build a relationship with my children (which it has), but in turn, God has stirred in me a passion and given me the gift of a front row seat to changed lives.

STORY OF THE WEEK

FREEZER MEAL FUN
Journey with us way to a time when Christmas decorations were still in their storage bins, yes, November. Only a couple weeks ago we were preparing to celebrate Thanksgiving, perhaps you’re still full from the meal.

Leading up to Thanksgiving, a group of Freshmen girls got together in a kitchen with the task of making meals for the Southeast Food Network.

The Saturday afternoon was filled with music, laughter, a mannequin challenge, and, of course, cooking. When all was said and done, three pans of stuffed shells and three containers of chicken noodle soup were prepared for a future meal.

If your small group, friend group, or family group would enjoy preparing meals for the Southeast Food Network, give us a holler. It’s a fun way to Love Where You Live.

STORY OF THE WEEK

STARTING POINT PUTS STUDENTS IN THE SPOTLIGHT
When Joon Cho went through Starting Point for Students he had sights for serving at the main Welcome Center on Sunday mornings. Now, that’s exactly where you can find him before and after the 9:00 Worship Service.

“I like being the person to say, ‘Hi,” to people and help where I can,” Cho commented.

Starting Point for Students is a six-week curriculum designed for middle school and high school students to serve the congregation on the weekends. Students learn spiritual gifts, receive training, and shadow in an area they are interested. Upon graduation, students become an integral part of the ministry team.

“We’re excited to see so many students learning new skills and putting faith in action,” shared Ben Patterson. The motto is true, “Anywhere you see an adult serving, a student has the potential to serve too.”

Starting Point for Students is located near the Coffee Shop at every Weekend Service.
