STORY OF THE WEEK

Nearly 700 middle school students swarmed the Parker Fieldhouse last Saturday night for a lock-in. Students enjoyed food, inflatables, video games, sports tournaments, bump soccer, and food.

“The goal is to create ‘Middle School Heaven,’” shared Jeremy Robinson, Middle School Pastor at Crossroads. “But if that’s all it’s about then it’s just a carnival. There’s more. We want the students to hear about Jesus and experience him in a fun way.”

The outreach event was an effort between Crossroads, PEPC, and Southeast churches. Plans are in motion to hold the event again next April.

STORY OF THE WEEK

STUDENTS ATTEND SHIFT CONFERENCE

Hundreds of students rallied together at Valor Christian High School last Saturday to tackle the world of human trafficking.

This student-organized conference brought provided seven speakers to talk about the issues. Topics of discussion in large group and breakout sessions included how to spot warning signs, the effects of pornography, and empowering to prevent.

“The Shift Conference opened my eyes and made me realize that human trafficking is actually happening in our area. I learned that I could be a part of the shift in the culture,” Jacob Spille said.

You may ask, how can I (only one person) make a difference? Well one thing that we certainly know to be true is that for anything to happen, in order for change to be real, there must be a SHIFT in our minds and in our hearts. We also know that for change to become real there really needs to be a SHIFT in our Personal Actions. For more info visit shiftjustice.com.

STORY OF THE WEEK

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: DIANE CHRISTENSEN

Diane is a marvelous middle school small group leader and has served in Student Ministry since 2003! We caught up with Diane for a little Q&A to learn what keeps her alive for middle schoolers:

Why did you choose to serve?
It is a natural choice for me to help out with kids since I have 4 children of my own, not to mention how much I enjoy it and I know I am called to do so.

What do you like about your role as a small group leader?
I enjoy relating to the students and providing guidance as I can. These students need to know how much they are loved and just need someone to listen to them without judgment.

Anything else on your mind you’d like to share?
With so much negativity the students have to face day to day, they need a good support system that makes them realize their worth is so much more than what this world says. They need a team of people praying over them and guiding them by speaking love and truth into their lives. I truly want every student to know how important they are - that is why I volunteer. Plus God asked me to.

SINCERELY,

The Student Ministry Team
