Neighboring - The Art of Receiving

What was the “next step” you committed to the last time we were together? How
did it go?

PLAY VIDEO (optional): WEEK FIVE -

Immediately follwing video, please discuss…What was your big take away from the video? What stuck out to you? What did you like? What was difficult or confusing?

Be sure to read the passage before discussing

Put yourself in the wounded traveler’s shoes. What might he have felt after getting better, waking up and realizing that a Samaritan looked after him and his needs?

Why didn’t God just provide for the wounded traveler directly? How do you think the Good Samaritan felt about being able to offer help and assistance?

What does it feel like to be the one receiving—whether it’s help, assistance,
advice, gifts, etc.? What does it feel like to ask for help?

What are your neighbors knowledgable and/or passionate about? How could you enter into their world and allow them to serve you?

Are you good at allowing other people to care for you? What makes it hard? How often do you ask for help from someone outside of your immediate family?

What current needs do you have that a neighbor might be able to help you with?

Do the Block Map - Write the names of your neighbors by listing out the names of the adults and children of the 8 closest houses or apartment units next to you and pay attention to the blank spaces. Go around and share how many neighbors you know by name and if you have made any progress since the last meeting.

Identify one neighbor that you are going to pray for over the next week.

Share one small “next step” that you feel God is calling you to take in the next 7 days.

Celebrate the learning and growth you’ve experienced over the past several weeks. Choose to take Jesus’ command literally and be a great neighbor to those whom God has placed right next door to you!
