Review It:

Hero: Gideon

When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” - Judges 6:12

God sees us not just as we are, but as we can become.

Gideon replied, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, give me a sign that it is really you talking to me. 18 Please do not go away until I come back and bring my offering and set it before you.” And the Lord said, “I will wait until you return.” –Judges 6:17-18

God will work with us all, even when faith is small.

So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the Lord told him. But because he was afraid of his family and the townspeople, he did it at night rather than in the daytime. Judges 6:27

If you’re afraid to act on a prompt from God, you’re not the only one.

Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised—37 look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.” 38 And that is what happened. Gideon rose early the next day; he squeezed the fleece and wrung out the dew—a bowlful of water. Judges 6:36-38

Then Gideon said to God, “Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request. Allow me one more test with the fleece, but this time make the fleece dry and let the ground be covered with dew.” 40 That night God did so. Only the fleece was dry; all the ground was covered with dew. Judges 6:39-40

God will work with us all, even when faith is small.

The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me.’ Judges 7:2

God was saving Israel to bring the people back to him, not for the people to get the credit.

When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation, he bowed down and worshiped. He returned to the camp of Israel and called out, “Get up! The Lordhas given the Midianite camp into your hands.” Judges 7:15

While each man held his position around the camp, all the Midianites ran, crying out as they fled. Judges 6:21

Gideon experienced life transformation from scared/afraid to mighty warrior.

Discuss It:

·       Share a transformation story. A time when something completely changed. Maybe it’s about a life choice, a child, or unforeseen circumstance.

·       Read Judges 6.

·       God often provides a next step to overcome life’s challenges. What did God ask Gideon to do as a next step? (vs 25-27)

·       When is a time you took a step of faith but were nervous or worried about what others would think?

·       Gideon asked God for a sign, not once but twice (vs 36-40). Have you ever asked God to give you a sign? What were the circumstances and what happened?

·       Read Judges 7.

·       Why was an army of 32,000 men too many? Why was 10,000 too many?

·       What is something you’ve experienced but would never be able to do without the power of God?

·       What was Gideon’s response when he overheard the Midianites interpret the dream?

·       Have you ever experienced a full confidence that God could handle the situation? If so, what was it like for you?

·       “God will work with us all, even when faith is small.” What are your thoughts about that statement? Do you have a story of a time God worked in your life amidst small faith?

·       What is your current challenge? How will you lean into that challenge? Consider your challenge as the focus of where you can experience God’s transformation in your life.

Apply It:

·       What is the one thing you need to take away from this study?

·       What will help you remember it?

·       Is there anything that needs to change in your thinking, actions, or relationships as a result?
