Yesterday’s sermon was a deep dive into the cultural context and biblical context of Jesus’ words to the church of Thyatira. Marty Solomon challenged us with the importance of knowing Scripture in order to better understand other Scripture, particularly Revelation. To know God, we must know His Word.

Today, let’s meditate on Scriptures that talk about God’s Word—what do we learn from the following passages, and which verses stand out to you? Pray through them and ask God to guide your understanding as you read.

Isaiah 55:10-11 ESV

10 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
    and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
    giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
    it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
    and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

John 1:1-3 ESV

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Isaiah 40:8 ESV

The grass withers, the flower fades,
    but the word of our God will stand forever.

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Psalm 119:11-16, 97-112

I have stored up your word in my heart,
    that I might not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, O Lord;
    teach me your statutes!
13 With my lips I declare
    all the rules of your mouth.
14 In the way of your testimonies I delight
    as much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on your precepts
    and fix my eyes on your ways.
16 I will delight in your statutes;
    I will not forget your word.

97 Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.
98 Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies,
    for it is ever with me.
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers,
    for your testimonies are my meditation.
100 I understand more than the aged,
    for I keep your precepts.
101 I hold back my feet from every evil way,
    in order to keep your word.
102 I do not turn aside from your rules,
    for you have taught me.
103 How sweet are your words to my taste,
    sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 Through your precepts I get understanding;
    therefore I hate every false way.

105 Your word is a lamp to my feet
    and a light to my path.
106 I have sworn an oath and confirmed it,
    to keep your righteous rules.
107 I am severely afflicted;
    give me life, O Lord, according to your word!
108 Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O Lord,
    and teach me your rules.
109 I hold my life in my hand continually,
    but I do not forget your law.
110 The wicked have laid a snare for me,
    but I do not stray from your precepts.
111 Your testimonies are my heritage forever,
    for they are the joy of my heart.
112 I incline my heart to perform your statutes
    forever, to the end.

 Lord, thank You for Your Word that never returns void! May we meditate on Your precepts and never forget Your Word, for it brings wisdom and understanding. Your Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.

Challenge: Choose a verse or two from above to commit to memory this week. Write the Scripture on a notecard or in the notes app on your phone. Pray and meditate on it as you go through each day. See how God uses it to speak into your life.
