GETTING MARRIED?

It is our desire to help couples prepare for marriage and get started right. If you are considering getting married at Southeast, need a pastor for the ceremony, or need premarital mentoring, here are some resources that will help:

Having a Wedding at Southeast Christian Church

If you are considering using the facilities at Southeast Christian Church, please contact Cynthia Cipperly (303-841-9292) for availability and reservations. Once the details are planned, Heather Norten will call you to schedule the officiating pastor.

Need a Pastor to Officiate the Wedding Ceremony

If you need to schedule a pastor to officiate the service, please contact Heather Norten (720-842-5509), preferably 3 months prior to the desired wedding date. Please include the bride and groom names and contact information; the dates, times, and locations of the ceremony and rehearsal; and the pastor you are requesting. Typically, you will meet with the pastor 2-3 times before the wedding for planning the service. The suggested honorarium for the pastor is $200 to $250.  An additional monetary gift is appropriate if the wedding is on a holiday or more than twenty miles away from Southeast Christian Church.

Premarital Mentoring or Counseling

To help couples prepare for marriage, premarital mentoring or counseling for all planning to be married through Southeast is available and required. Options include:

Premarital Mentoring

Marriage mentors help couples learn how to navigate the journey of love for a lifetime. A mentor is not licensed counselor or a couple with a perfect marriage. They are someone who is further down the road, relatively happy in their marriage, and are trained to invest in another couple’s marriage. The mentoring program uses the SYMBIS assessment, which includes an assessment taken by both individuals and typically 4-6 sessions with a mentor couple. The assessment covers personality types, communication styles, expectations, financial attitudes, sexual intimacy, and more. Marriage mentoring is based on availability. The cost for mentoring is FREE and the cost for the SYMBIS assessment is $35 per couple. For more information on the assessment: SYMBIS ASSESSMENT. For questions, contact Mark and Laura Wildey.

Premarital Counseling

Premarital Counseling at Southeast: The Southeast Christian Counseling Center utilizes the Prepare-Enrich program which includes an assessment taken by both individuals and six one-hour sessions with a counselor. To schedule an initial consultation for this counseling, or for questions, please contact Carolyn Zweigart (720.842.5553). Cost ranges from $195 to $410 depending on the experience of the counselor. Couples will need to sign a release form allowing the counselor to share information with the pastor.

Outside Southeast: We ask that your premarital counseling is provided by a Prepare-Enrich Certified Facilitator and/or a counselor with state licensure (e.g., LPC, LMFT) that addresses the following topics in the context of your relationship: spiritual beliefs and expressions, conflict resolution, finances, expectations and communication. Couples will need to sign a release form allowing the counselor to share information with the pastor.

Additional Resources

It is a great idea to take at least six months to prepare for your marriage. This goes beyond choosing a date and church, reserving a place for the reception, and picking out dresses. It means using this time to delve more deeply into your relationship and approach this momentous day with prayer and reflection. Some great books and resources can be found here:
