ELEMENTARY SUBSTITUTE WEEKEND COORDINATOR

Summary/Objective

Work on a team to equip, coach and support volunteers to lead fun and loving weekly experiences where elementary age children are encouraged to develop a relationship with Christ and with their church family.

Responsibilities

  1. Main Areas of Responsibility:
    • Operations – Carry out the ministry vision and strategy by assisting, supporting and empowering volunteers.
    • Volunteers – Assist in recruiting, training and equipping volunteers to lead children with confidence and effectiveness.
    • Environment – Work collaboratively to maintain an environment that is kid friendly, safe, clean, and wins the trust of parents.
  2. Be present in Elementary hallway during specific services on scheduled weekends.
  3. Ensure that ministry area is prepared to receive children and their families with proper staffing, equipment and supplies.
  4. Ensure that ministry areas/supplies are cleaned properly following weekend services and prepared for weekday scheduling on Monday.
  5. Knowledge of curriculum and ability to give guidance and direction to volunteers as needed in order to carry out the curriculum strategy on a weekly basis.
  6. Assist in developing volunteers.
  7. Ensure that proper security and risk management procedures are observed.
  8. Foster relationships with children and their parents, as well as volunteers, in a manner which preserves and furthers the integrity of the ministry.
  9. Report weekend ministry statistics to the Elementary Director.
  10. Participate in recruitment events, special ministry events, trainings and community building events.
  11. Participate in planning meetings with the Children’s team as requested.

Time Requirement

Some Sundays, as needed, including occasional evenings, Christmas and Easter services.

Work Environment

This job operates in a church/classroom facility and uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, desktop computers and telephones.

Qualifications

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  1. Personal, active, growing commitment to Christ.
  2. As a member of the Southeast Christian Church staff, must believe firmly in the values and mission of Southeast and commit to making Southeast their home church. Must make attending one church service a weekend a priority (agreed on by the Elementary Director).
  3. A heart of Christ in leadership.
  4. Able to lead, coach, develop and support volunteers.
  5. Able to lead a classroom or small group of children in the absence of volunteers.
  6. Have a love for children (especially Elementary age) and Children’s Ministry.
  7. Be positive, cooperative, self-motivated, courteous and professional.
  8. Be able to assess and prioritize needs in a calm and collected manner.
  9. 2+ years working with children, preferably some experience in a ministry or teaching setting.
  10. Proficient communication and computer skills.
