Earthquake Relief
Southeast has partnered with the International Turkey Network (ITN) to support Turkey & Syria during this time of crisis.
If you would like to directly support the ministry of the Church in Turkey’s relief efforts, please give to the Turkey Earthquake Relief Fund ITN has set up through Antioch Network. They will pass these funds on to ministries and churches serving on the ground in the earthquake region.
Even greater and possibly more devastating mortality rates will be in the weeks and months to come with severe lack of food, housing, and sanitation during their current winter season. Rescues of those trapped has now moved to recovery of those who didn’t survive to prevent spread of disease and removal of the thousands of damaged remaining buildings. In the region affected there are tens of thousands of severely injured and hundreds of thousands homeless. At least 26 million need humanitarian assistance which is approaching the total population of Texas.
As of Saturday, February 18, 2023, more than 46,000 people have died per the UN's most recent report. This total will sadly rise as recovery efforts move forward. To give you a little perspective:
- This is the equivalent to more than 82 fully loaded Boeing 777-300 passenger jets.
- This is more than double the full occupancy of Ball Arena, home of the Denver Nuggets and CO Avalanche.
- The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Agency, AFAD, said that the earthquake that struck southern Turkey and northern Syria last Monday had a magnitude of 7.7 and lasted 65 seconds, and that the energy emitted from it was equivalent to 500 nuclear bombs.
- The 2021 US Census Bureau reports the population of Littleton, CO is about 45,000.
The partner churches, pastors, and believers that our gifts are going to are actively engaged in feeding, housing, and caring for those affected. Even Turkish government agencies are choosing to direct resources through the church to victims – an incredible reversal of previous experiences! Because of the Church loving their suffering neighbors as themselves, those receiving care are now increasingly open to the Gospel. Killing, stealing, and destroying will in time turn to abundant life. (John 10:10)
Please join us in prayer for Turkey & Syria during this catastrophic time.
