ROYAL FAMILY KIDS CAMP CHANGES LIVES! Children from the Foster Care System attending camp experience dramatic, life changing, positive memories that bring lasting healing. Our kids encounter unconditional love, healthy connections with trained adults and fun packed days at camp with caring adults on a university campus.
Southeast Christian Church is celebrating our sixth year of Royal Family KIDS Camp in 2019! There are many ways to get involved - whether it be for a week at camp or helping for a few hours here and there.
For every volunteer serving as a Camp Counselor, what we refer to as a Big Camper, who is willing to spend the entire week at camp, two little campers are able to attend. Training is mandatory. Big Campers arrive at camp before the little campers to help set up camp, decorate their rooms and then welcome the campers as they arrive. Each Big Camper is responsible for two little campers in order to provide the very best care and attention for our campers. Each day is filled with planned activities for the Big Campers to accompany the kiddos through so everybody is sure to have fun and make great memories.
Junior Big Campers
High school students sixteen years or older can serve as Junior Big Campers. While they don’t have sole responsibility for specific little campers they are assigned to a team of Big Campers to assist them in caring for the kiddos during the week of camp. Training is mandatory. Junior Big Campers also participate in prepared stage drama and puppet skits that are part of the curriculum. They sing, swim, play and just generally have fun alongside the little campers.
Other Camp Staff
We also need volunteers for various camp staff positions that make all the fun happen for the Big Campers and their little campers. All volunteers attending camp are required to attend training. Activities Team – Arts & Crafts, Coach, Woodworking Captain, Tea Party Hostess, Archery Captain Curriculum Team – Bible Teacher, Music, Drama & Puppets Care Team – Camp Nurses, Dean of Men & Women, Grandpa & Grandma, Encouragers Camper Boutique – shopkeeper for the new & gently used clothing boutique for the kiddos Logistics – loading and moving, sound system set up, camp set up, coordinating movement of people and resources before, during and after camp.
All Campers and staff raise their own funds to go to camp. If you are interested in donating to a specific camper, or to the team, click here:
You can also donate to send a Kid to camp:
If attending camp for one week doesn’t work for you, we always need help preparing for camp. Our successful camp can’t happen without great volunteer assistance in these areas: Meeting Support Team Members – volunteers who will help us with our multiple training meetings set up including room décor and set up, food preparations and arrangements, serving, etc. Registration Team Members – volunteers who can help the Monday morning that camp begins in greeting our little campers and their parents/caretakers as they are carefully checked in for camp, parents/caretakers transfer the care of their precious kiddos over to the Big Campers for the week, luggage gets loaded on the bus and the kiddos enjoy the start of their camp experience while waiting for everybody to arrive and get checked in before the bus is loaded. Prayer Team Members – we covet the privilege of having designated prayer partners who will pray for our volunteers who answer the call to commit to participating in camp, as they are trained and prepare for camp and while they are serving during the week of camp. Prayer partners will also be asked to pray for each of the little campers and their parents/caregivers, that each kiddo will experience the love of God during this week while making new memories and that the parents/caregivers will be blessed with respite care for themselves while we love on their precious kiddos. Creative Team – volunteers with a flair for creativity, decorating and set up are needed to help us with special areas of our camp to coordinate with the planned camp theme and curriculum.
Royal Family Kids Club provides a chance for trained volunteers to confront abuse by providing life changing moments for children in foster and kinship care. Once kids have attended our summer camp, they are invited to participate in our Mentors and Club program. The first Saturday of every month at Southeast, our team of Royal Family Volunteers holds a Club meeting that includes a Bible story, snack, craft and activity. Mentors and kids get to participate together in the monthly Club, as well as meet off site once a month to continue to grow their relationships. If you want to make a difference in the life a child who comes from a hard place, this could be a fit for you.
Royal Family Kids Mentor- Ideally mentors are previous Big Campers at RFK Camp. Mentors go through extensive training and make a year long commitment to a kid. Mentor meet monthly with their kid as well as attend monthly club meetings.
Support Staff- Support staff come alongside mentors and help make the club experience royal. We need help with teachers, crafts, activities, and so much more!
